Group 2, thursday

Singing! That was a starter of this day. Everybody got together at theater hall with the music teacher Joost Mol and sang a happy birthday in all of our languages to one of the Finnish teachers, Milla Aaltonen, since she has her birthday today! CONGRATS!

We also sang couple of songs in kanon in groups. It was kind of hard. After that, we had a coffee break and continued our task 2. Our package is almost ready. Next we build up our exhibition ready for tomorrow, and then we go home. Or...

... To the barbecue at Veerle's place tonight! We are waiting for it anxiously, since it's still so good weather and almost all of us viwo students are going. We are all buying something to eat and drink from the supermarket, and then share them all at the barbecue. There is going to be vegetarian and meat grills separated, so that everyone can eat what they want but the vegetarians can keep away from the meat. Can't wait!

Group 4, Day four

Today we met up in the theatre room to sing in a choir. And then we continued our TASK 2 and finished TASK 1.

Bo,
The choir was something I enjoyed, but I am not sure if I would do it again.

Jonas,
Why do you want to know? Ha.Ha.Ha, greetings.

Tanja,
I like singing so the choir was fun. Yup.

Liisa,
I'm just visiting in this blog and photobomb this picture :):):):):):)

Group 1 day 4

So we haven't done much today yet(just finished the projects and so on) so there's not much to say. We started the day by singing a bit in a choir with all the viwo-students and a few first years from the Friese Poort school.
Now we're done with our assignments and we'll probably start building the exhibition just after the lunch.
There's a nice weather outside and we'll be having a lot of free time later today and we're looking forward to having the barbecue later at Veerles place.
Hope ya'll will be having a good day. Greetings from group 1(Jimi, Anne-Maartje, Elvin)

Group 5: Marika, Vicky & Hinke

Today was the third day of the program. We didn't got any time to blog yesterday, as it was quite a busy program. The day started off with an hour of cultural history of Jan, a teacher of the dutch people here in Drachten. We ended the lecture with a game, called sjoelen. Sjoelen is a typical dutch game where you have wooden slices which you have to shove in different holes. The finish people won. After lunch we walked to the museum, in the hot sun. It was a museum about dadaism in Drachten. The third day - today- consisted off making the package design for the dutch food.

In our opinion, the museum was wonderful, we were quite tired, but the exhibition was good. In fact it was the best museum Vicky ever went to. She wanted to stay forever, but we had to go to dinner. The statue (patsas in Finnish) in front of the museum was also nice to look at, a long slender man and a overweight smaller woman who held out their hands. After the tour we made the collages, with random pieces glued on the paper. It was a shame that there was so less time.

Monday in the evening we went to the restaurant in the school, but there was a mistake and we couldn't get dinner there, that damn people didn't let us in, we were very hungry, we almost ate each other's hands. Luckily Janet found us a nice Chinese restaurant that could serve us all diner. Luckily we could go to the restaurant of the school yesterday, and ate delicious soup, schnitzel and wonderful ice cream (Hinke could eat a while bucket of it).

Today wasn't a good day for Hinke, as she overslept. In the meantime Vicky and Marika were already quite productive, and continued with the moodboard of the package design. We made the base of the package, and only need to design it, print it and paste it on the box. The lunch was nice, as we got sugared bread (Suikerbrood in Dutch).

Another nice thing of the day were the 3D pens. We got to make all sort of things, like rings, cubes and beetles. It was quite hard, but fun to work with.

Tomorrow we will sing (choire) with the other students and finish the package design. We get a free evening, to go shopping in Drachten (which is nice, of course).

Group 4, Day Three

Today we met in the "Atelier" were we continued our task two, redesigning a package.
It was a calm day as we started to digitalize some sketches we made. Such as patterns and other thing we needed for the new package.
LUNCH BREAK!
We continued the digitalizing of our sketches, some small things needed to be done as well, like printing TASK one and preparing that for our exhibition.

Bo,
Today was a very peaceful but yet very funny day! I talked a lot with my teammates and learned new Finnish words like PORO! I ended up talking a lot with the people.

Jonas,
It was a nice day today! I enjoyed a much the time here and I am gaining a lot of new experiences with the different people!

Tanja,
It was a fun day. We did a lot of work and I learnt how to use the Illustrator! It was hard at first but with the help of others I got things done. :)

Group 1 day 3

We spent the entire day making the packages for our assignment. Time flied and soon the day was over and our project had been completed and thew final result is much better than we expected, which is very nice. We had many ideas of how we could do our package at first, but we quickly managed to pick one out of the other options and soon got to working with the project.
Some of us had problems with using computer programs like illustrator a bit but we managed to get everyone something to do.
Also, everyone in the viwo-project seem to be getting along better, which makes working with the group much easier and fun.

Greetings, group 1 (Jimi, Anne-Maartje, Mery, Elvin)

But first, let me take a selfie.

No description, just enjoy our faces.

MUUSA'S THOUGHTS:

Wind! So windy windy yesterday, almost flew with it! Gladly we went inside the art museum to hide from it and the moist heat... Oh, and to see the Dada -art too, of course. ;) In my opinion, it was empty and shallow style. Piece of art needs to touch me or have some kind of a message so that I can like it, not to be just a random sh*t stuffed in random place for a random love of creating without a thought behind it. It's like anyone can do that, no creativity needed. Although we got to make a piece of collage with the dada-style and it was fun! It was so freeing to just create something without any expectations, but still I don't see what it has to give to the audience.

We started yesterday morning with a funniest  presentation ever! Music and art history teacher Jan Bartlema told us a little about Hollands history, art and architecture. Also we got to dance with the wooden clogs, taste some haring and "horse pee" alias Frysk Slokje and played a tournament of sjoelen against other countries. Finland won!! Jeij, way to go we!

Today we have been working with the package of some traditional dutch snack. Our group is being really productive with our cookie package. We have so many great ideas and the final picture is starting to get together fast. We have the shape ready, the colors, and the Spanish breakfast theme with the dutch details. Im quite exited and proud of it already!

This much from me. I'm losing my heart for this country, it's people, weather, buildings and way of thinking. Time flies!

Yeah. Flies. Buzz.

Impression of the working day!

The team from Spain

Group 5: Hinke, Vicky & Marika

The Viwo program started on monday, May 9, in Drachten, the Netherlands. The Spanish, German and the Finnish arrived after a long journey and started the program together with the Dutch. We had an introduction and lunch exciting out of soup and sandwiches. After lunch we got divided into groups, and so group five came to be, three girls of Spain, Finland and the Netherlands.

Vicky (Spain) : I am surprised by the appearance of the school, it's very different from our art school. It has wonderful energy, and our group gets along really well. Our project, it's starting to come together, and I'm very exited about the final work.

Marika (Finland): I really liked the architecture of the school. Both the people and the weather is nice. And I love Drachten already, it's really beautiful.

Hinke (the Netherlands): It was a bit challenging at first to meet new people, but I imagine it would be the same for the others, especially in a foreign country like the Netherlands. However seeing some old faces of the project in Finland was relieving to me. Soon I got along with Vicky and Marika as we started on the project to make a new design of dutch candy; salty liquorice. when sharing ideas we created a new concept with influence of everyone in the group, which I really liked.

We are ending our schoolday with a nice dinner at the restaurant at the school. We look forward to tomorrow.

Today is a different day, because we had changed our routine.

Today we have shared experiences and exchanged views on Dutch topics.
The group of La Palma what has most caught his attention has been:
both traditional and modern architecture, the flat surface of the country,
the distance from the sky and openminded and friendly are the Dutch people.

Group 1 - First Day

Our day started at the school auditorium at 10am. We got a quick introduction after a quick tour around the buildings of the school. Our first impressions about the school were good, we thought it was a very open-minded and the architecture is very interesting and the place seems very nice and clean.
We got our first assignment after lunch around 13.30, we think. We were working in groups of three or four students each from another country. Our assignment was about making a redesign of a dutch product so that we could sell it in another country and it started out pretty well.
We've come up with some new ideas for the product, like the shapes and colors of the containers.
We'll be looking forward to the next day.
Greetings from group 1 (Jimi, Anne-Maartje, Mery, Elvin)

Group 4, First day

We started our day with an introduction about the VIWO project. After that we had a small tour, in the small school (Building A) we got to see the other buildings on the campus as well.
LUNCH BREAK!
Then the VIWO task two started, we were put into groups off four/three.
We had to redesign a a package off popular Dutch food, we were given two kinds off popular food and we had to chose between them.

Thoughts,

Bo,
I thought the assignment was something different, I really liked the groups that were put together. In the end we got really far with the design and I can't wait to start the package.
P.S. the gingerbread tasted nice!

Jonas,
At first, the fact that every culture were mixed was, in my opinion, a totally new experience and I enjoyed it a lot! At the second time, the lunch was a bit strange because it wasn't at the time I am get used to. I'm happy with my group and I learned some Finnish words like PERKELE.

Tanja,
The assignment is really interesting in my opinion. I've never done anything like this. And I like meeting new people so it was really nice that we were put into groups. The people are very nice and friendly! Plus the foods were good.

Group 2 - First day!

The day at the school started with  a little welcome message, followed by a tour around school and the campus. The buildings made a great first impression on Muusa: she was amazed about how much space students have in their use and how much light there were.

After this, we met back at the theatre hall and did some games to get to know each other. It was cool to see that people were already opening up and talking to each other.
We also talked about the first impressions everyone had of the Netherlands; for example bikes, the flat landscape, cows, the shape of the roofs, friendly and open minded (though sometimes rude) people and huge mosquitos (daddy longlegs?).

Then, we were divided into groups with people from each country and we started on our first assignment; to re-design the packaging of a typically Dutch product. Our group worked together really well, and had a great time together :)
We are working on the package of Dutch chocolate cookies. Our idea is to make a unique shape, with folding techniques and triangle shapes. For colors, we picked Dutch colors: orange and Delfts blue. Our plan is to sell it in Spain, as a breakfast cookie.

We can't wait for another fun day like this! :)

- Gara, Muusa and Veerle.

Our first day!

Hallo, Moi, Hola, Guten tag,

We (Liisa, Nunu, Marcel and Gaby) have no idea how to begin this story about today.
So we are just going to sit here and write a story about our first day meeting each other.
One thing was sure, the cookies were good.
First we got a guided tour around the school and the campus.
After that, we played games to get to know each other better. But still, we can't even remember each others names. But that's okay, we have 4 days left...
We split in groups and got our first assignment, we have to design a new package for "stroopwafels" to sell them in Spain. Of course, we have the greatest idea in history.
We're looking forward to the rest of the week and hope we will remember some more names :).
And we lived happily ever after.

The end
Great to be able to welcome everyone from the Visual World project team in our school!
We still have beautiful weather and it is a very interesting group. Lots of good energy shared, that is a good start.

First day in the workshop

Working with the project has started with busy work ; both teachers and students.

Do you know our best Dutch products?

FRIESLAND - Hinke vd Werf

Are those 'stereotypes' really REAL?

Through the images you can see below you get to understand that our students would really like to use a modern image of the traditional IDEAS about stereotypes from The Netherlands! : )
But almost all the them agree that their country is famous for its cheese, bikes and windmills!
What about the weather? Some of them just will like to see more attention given to WATER...you can find a lot of water in The Netherlands of course...many...but not only rain!
