Are those 'stereotypes' really REAL?
Through the images you can see below you get to understand that our students would really like to use a modern image of the traditional IDEAS about stereotypes from The Netherlands! : )
But almost all the them agree that their country is famous for its cheese, bikes and windmills!
What about the weather? Some of them just will like to see more attention given to WATER...you can find a lot of water in The Netherlands of course...many...but not only rain!

ViWo Workpackage 2 CONTINUE…
ViSUAL TASK 1 / NL (there is only
ONE task but 4 different parts as we develop the image)
PART 3:
The next step is to pick up 1 country from
your list (it can also be your own). Then choose three ‘terms/words’ that are appealing
to you to work with. After doing this, you will be creating an image. Use de
three words as start point to develop the final image.
There are two possibilities, either you agree
with that description of the STEREOTYPE of you DO NOT. Both are fine, you are
complete entitled to your meaning.
1-
If you agree with the term you choose then you will be creating a MODERN a new image
of it to be able to communicate the same message in a much more modern way. For
example: CHEESE for the Netherlands. They usually draw these terrible old
fashion drawings of the cheese with big holes in them. OUR CHEESE DOES NOT LOOK
LIKE THIS. But I agree, The Netherlands should be known for its great cheese. THEN
you will create a new image of the CHEESE! :) How would you be selling Dutch
cheese as an image to be appealing to tourists?
2-
If you do not agree with that STEREOTYPE…why
would you like to change it? What you do to replace it? DO you have new ideas?
Other ideas about that country? Experiences that you would like to see in an
IMAGE? Then you use that as start point.
Create your own image now!
Just the way YOU want it
to look like. That image that you would
like to see, the image that people will recognize that country from.
There are some
requirements of that image. It has to be graphic
because it has to be suitable to reproduce if you would like to use it for
advertising your country!
That is why it could not
be more than ONE or TWO colors. Think very careful which colors you want to
choose to be associated with that country.
We would like to see
images made in ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR (not a
requirement), if you are not familiar with that software it is also
possible to make it digital any other way (another software or Photoshop for
example or even making a photo) but be sure you make a good quality document to
be uploads to our VIWO Blog.
THE IDEA OF THIS TASK IS TO SHARE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE OUR THINKING
PROCES! PLEASE SHARE NOTES< COLLAGES< SCHETCHES < ANY OTHER VISUAL
INFORMATION WITH US!
3-
TAG your post
with your name / also write down the three words you have chosen to build your
image from
REQUIREMENTS:
Resolution max. 150 ppi. / max. amount of pixels 800 x 800
4-
File formats:
JPG, PNG and GIF.
5-
Add the label of
your school and Visual Task 3 / NL
PART 4:
Please print your image in the middle
of a white paper. Be sure your image is not bigger dan 20 cm x 20 cm and take
it with you to The Netherlands. We will use that image to be working as a group
when you come visit in May.
…to be continued when you come visit…until
next May!

WORKPACKAGE 2
TASK 1 ‘Project
stereotype’
What is ‘ stereotype’:
Wikipedia: A widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or
thing: the stereotype of the woman as the carersexual and racial stereotypes.
Cambridge Diccionary: a set idea that people have about what someone or
something is like, especially an idea that is wrong: racial/sexual stereotypes
/ He doesn't conform to/fit/fill the
national stereotype of a Frenchman.The
characters in the book are just stereotypes.
Do you agree with certain ‘stereotypes’?
PART 1:
1-
Star by doing a brainstorm session as a group. Share opinions and talk about the four
countries that are involved in ViWo project. Try to describe that country in
just WORDS. While talking about the countries you will find yourself saying
words that describe an idea that you have about that country or describe a
STEREOTYPE. You will soon notice that everyone has a different idea or maybe a lot of similar ideas!...Stereotypes?
2-
Make a list of words that describe the most the country
you are discussing. Do this for all the 4 countries involve in VIWO project. IT
COULD BE ANYTHING about that country (food, culture, music, art, landscape,
nature, animals, people, etc.) At the end you will come out with four lists of
words: One list for Spain, one for The Netherlands, another one for Finland and
the fourth for Germany (you country of course is included!).
3-
START working with YOUR COUNTRY. What do you think
people really know about your country? What is your country famous for? Do people
have the right ‘image’ about your country? Are there things they misplaced?
Misunderstood? Does the image foreigners have of your country match with the
SELLING MARKETING images of you national tourism campaign office? Are these ‘positive’
images?
4-
Post the list on the WORKPACKAGE 2 in our VIWO BLOG!
It could be a picture of your list or just write the list of words in the blog.
